Amy Carlton Slept Here
(actual cities where I've snoozed, from 1992-2002)
Ann Arbor, MI
Delray Beach, FL
Forest Park, IL
Lake Ogemaw, MI
Las Vegas, NV
New York, NY
Oak Park, IL
Royal Oak, MI
St Louis, MO
St Paul, MN
This started out as just an exercise in procrastination, but the more cities I listed, the more I thought about where I went and why I went there -- work, travel, romance, familial obligation. Most of these places are on the surface unexotic and uninteresting (what can possibly be said in favor of Anaheim, for example?) until I remembered how it was my first business trip, which made me feel like an adult, and that my friends Matt and Shirley drove in from Venice Beach to take me out for delicious Mexican food, and I tried cactus for the first time, and the lard-fried chips made me very sick several hours later. Carbondale -- my first time camping, an ill-advised trip with a coworker wherein nothing unseemly happened but we were the subject of office scuttlebutt for months afterward. St. Louis -- the WAC Drum Core world tour! The last time we got along, before everything imploded. Dallas -- a trade show in the middle of July, 100 degrees every day and the only pool at the hotel was a hot tub on the roof. The Mary Kay convention was also that week, and I loved tromping into elevators in my cutoffs and Docs while the fluffy pink women stared in horror at my leg hair.
So, where have you been?

Sorry, man -- it was long before I even knew about the Internet or weblogs or anything. I lived in a crappy apartment at 13 & Crooks, 1993-94.
Next time, though.

Hey. My first thought is that you've slept around ALOT. Then I suppose you are right in listing all the cities that put you to sleep. I'll ponder the thought and then...um...yawn...get back to ya!
