Oh, it's all so tawdry.

U.S. Rep. Ed Schrock Announces Retirement

RICHMOND, Va. - Republicans were scrambling to find a replacement candidate after U.S. Rep. Edward L. Schrock announced his retirement amid allegations that he is gay.

Republicans from Schrock's conservative district, which includes Norfolk and Virginia Beach, planned to choose a nominee to oppose Democratic lawyer David B. Ashe after a hastily arranged meeting Tuesday night.

Schrock, 63, cited unspecified allegations in a statement he released Monday as the reason he decided not to seek a third term for Congress. He said the allegations "have called into question my ability to represent the citizens of Virginia's Second Congressional District."

The release said Schrock, a retired Navy officer and Vietnam veteran, would not comment further on his decision, nor did he comment specifically on the allegations.

Allegations that Schrock is gay were posted on a Web log Aug. 19 by Michael Rogers, who said his blog is aimed at exposing "hypocrites" in Congress.

[snip]

Schrock is married and a conservative who has voted for legislation to ban gay marriages.

The retired Navy officer and Vietnam veteran said he would not comment further on his decision to step down.

"I am totally, totally shocked and disappointed. Whatever it is, he should have stayed in and fought it. He's a good Republican," said Juanita Bailey of Newport News, a delegate at the Republican National Convention in New York.

So, what happened? According to BlogActive:

Congressman Ed Schrock has made a habit of rendezvousing with gay men via the MegaMates/ MegaPhone Line, an interactive telephone service on which men place ads and respond to those ads to meet each other. What makes this story more amazing? Congressman Schrock not only voted for the homophobic Marriage Protection Act, but he also signed on as a CO-SPONSOR of the Federal Marriage Amendment!

So, yes, he is a "good Republican." If by "good Republican" you mean "vicious, hate-filled hypocrite." (And I bet you do!)

NOTHING this year has amused me quite so much as the fall of Ed Schrock. This shit is HYSTERICAL. It's one of those bright, clear moments when you just KNOW that Karma works. Sometimes way too slowly, but it DOES work. And it will bite you in the ass on your way down.

Kinda like Ed's type of men... heh heh heh...

Too beautiful. Kevin Smith or Mel Brooks couldn't have written it any funnier.

Of course, obviously, it sucks for all the people that this closet-case has harmed, be they his family, his constituents, or the general public at large who are damaged by his waaaaaayyyy over-the-top, sadistic attempts to overcompensate/defend against his own gayness. So, we feel bad for all of them.

But Ed?

Yeah, Ed, we just LAUGH AT.

Payback, as they say, is a muthaFUCKA.
