...that you might dig, too. I share!
Sleater-Kinney's The Woods. I'm not a fan of the jam band or the guitar solo. One of the main reasons I was drawn to punk in the first place is that I have little use for songs that can't make their point in three minutes and move on. But "Let's Call It Love" has grabbed a hold of my head and started banging it. Corin Tucker gets in touch with her inner Robert Plant for 11+ minutes and sings dirty about fucking. I can't wait to see them Thursday night. Rock!
Picaresque. OK, sometimes the Decemberists are a little too clever, and as someone on Glorious Noise pointed out, a barrow boy most likely would not sell both coals and marigolds. And when I finally figured out whose voice Colin Meloy's reminded me of (Natalie Merchant's -- overarticulated yet oddly obstructed, pronouncing fear as fee-yawr and such. Perhaps he has a mouthful of quail eggs), I was deeply annoyed and afraid that I would go off them the way I couldn't listen to the Posies anymore after I mentally linked their singer's voice with Kenny Loggins'. But Petra Hayden's spooky mother-from-beyond-the-grave voice chanting "find him/bind him/tie him to a pole and break his fingers/to splinters/drag him to a hole until he wakes up/naked/clawing at the ceiling of his grave" has been on infinite repeat in my head all week. It's a great CD.
This Daily Oliver photo. Also this one.
Chocolate Silk. Man, this is good stuff. Why have I been avoiding it all these years?
The redesigned Vegetarian Times. I haven't been this in love with a magazine since I discovered Bitch back in the day. I've been a subscriber for years, but I really got turned off a couple years ago when they went "upscale" and started recommending wines with each entree and writing about really expensive frou-frou foods and spa vacations. The new redesign gets back to the basics, vegetarian food for normal people who don't have all damn day to cook. It has about twice as many recipes, and just about everything I've made has been delicious. The magazine also seems to be re-embracing the politics of vegetarianism, with articles on factory dairy farms and other uncomfortable issues.
And finally, I'm totally into this guy. Six years ago today, I asked him to come over and help me set up my e-mail. And he never left! Hooray!

Oh good. I was afraid I was the only person who liked 'The Mariner's Revenge Song'.
And I think Colin Meloy has some kind of lingering speech therapy issues. He pronounces all of his 'r' sounds oddly. I find it kind of endearing.

So which guy are you into? I'm afraid it's Robert Blake.

No, Mom. It's Michael Jackson.
Now it can be told!
