Back to main menu :: [Prev] random! music! for a shitty week [Next]

This week sucked. Jim's grandmother died on Saturday night (her 62nd wedding anniversary, just to make it even suckier), so we went to Peoria on Tuesday and Wednesday for the funeral. Grandma Betty was a warm and feisty lady with a sly sense of humor -- I loved hanging out with her. Which, of course, I never did enough.

She was also well loved by her fellow Peorians, who were lined up at the funeral home all the way down the hall and out the front door for the visitation. Neighbors, distant relatives, fellow parishoners. People she went to grade school with showed up to pay their respects and tell us how special she was to them. It was sad but heartening to see how many people she touched during her life.

In much less horrible but still rather sucky news, after the visitation I got into a little car accident. I was driving Jim and Amy (in their mom's car) to our hotel when an SUV pulling out of the Walgreens lot smacked right into us. The damage to the car was minimal -- a crumpled bumper -- and no one was hurt. But it was my first accident in 20 years of driving, and I have to say I really did not like it.

Today is also my last day at my job, which is good, but getting all my projects finished before I leave has meant working extra hours, which, combined with everything else this week, has me feeling exhausted and fragile. I'm hoping to recover a bit this weekend before starting the new job on Tuesday. Amy will be here for a few days (our first guest at the Crack House, all the way from Sydney!), so there will be much eating and chatting and possibly shopping to recharge my mental batteries.

So this week's Random Ten breaks the rules a bit. All the songs come from my "happy place" playlist, 250 songs scientifically formulated to raise my spirits. I hope they work for you, too.

Dinner Bell -- They Might Be Giants
I Can't Explain -- the Who
Bunnies -- Pansy Division
Istanbul (Not Constantinople) -- They Might Be Giants
Peek-a-boo -- Siouxsie & the Banshees
This Charming Man -- the Smiths
A Tisket, A Tasket -- Ella Fitzgerald
It's Hard to Turn Me On -- Quasi
Jungle Love -- the Time
Tupelo Honey -- Van Morrison

and one more, just because it's been that kind of week

Mucha Muchacha -- Esquivel

Nobody hurt, good accident. Little scary, but no body parts dented, things are OK.
