Back to main menu :: [Prev] our crazy Chicago life [Next]

Jim and I were at a party until two o'clock in the morning!

I know! That's, like, five hours past our usual bedtime. But we were just having too much fun to leave. We went to the opening night of Contraption (the latest Neo-Futurist show -- highly recommended! You will love it!), then the post-show reception at the theater, then the after-party with the cast and several other interesting people, and then suddenly it was 2 a.m. and we had to get a cab before we fell asleep on our hosts' couch.

And this morning over our oatmeal we groggily mused that it's still hard for us to believe we have this big-city life -- two nerdy kids from boring towns now working real jobs in downtown Chicago, having friends in many different-yet-overlapping social circles,* consorting with actors and artists, taking taxicabs to our condo, and such and such. It's the kind of life we've both always wanted, and it's still hard to believe we actually have it.

*One thing that really makes me feel like a grown-up these days is that I'm finally getting good at networking. I wouldn't go so far to say I have "spheres of influence" in this town, but in the past few months I've been able to work my connections in the crafty, theatrical, online, and nonprofit communities to help my friends find work, housing, freelance gigs, and other goodies. I'm totally digging being a conduit! Do you need something? Maybe I can help!
