I'm not going to lie to you -- there's not much that doesn't suck about having a migraine. Sometimes for me the pain is secondary to other symptoms, like dizziness, light sensitivity, and nausea. My god, the nausea. I've learned over the years that come migraine time, I'm not going to have much of an appetite and it's not going to be for anything exciting. I tend to crave soft, comforting things -- a bagel and cream cheese, mashed potatoes, fresh fruit, a little chocolate. So one of the ways I take care of myself is to accept whatever I might be hungry for and just eat it, no matter how unhealthy or unusual. Because odds are I won't eat very much of it, and just getting something in my belly can be a triumph and take the edge off the meds (which have a lot of caffeine). And getting to eat what I want is about the only good thing about having a migraine.

Tonight I had a chocolate cupcake and some clementines for dinner. And I'm OK with that.
